Wendy and John
Let me introduce myself, my name
is Wendy Burke and I have been married
to John for 38 years and we are the
Landlord and Landlady of The Waggon
and Horses John and I bought the
lease of The Waggon & Horses
in November 2001.
When we viewed The Waggon over ten years ago it
was very dreary, shabby and unloved. It had a very bad reputation and
even the owner was not comfortable in the pub. But I had a
good feeling about it and felt that I could
make a good home for my family as well as a thriving business.
(John has blamed me ever since!)
Since 2001 we have
a good business with a wide customer base. We have made a lot of friends and think of them as our extended family and hope that they feel the same way about us.
We introduced our Sunday Lunches (just
like mum used to make) and they have
become a roaring success. We are now starting to offer traditional pub grub available throughout the week.
The Waggoneers MCC was started in
2009 and is a family bike club. All the members get on well with the locals and
vice versa. The Waggoneers arrange a
Spring Bash every May for The Air
Ambulance and it is a day of fun and Live Music, supported by other bike clubs and
of course our loyal customers.
We do a lot of fund raising for many
different charities and are always well supported by our customers and our thanks
go out to everyone for always digging deep
in their pockets.
We have live music every Friday night and Friday Night at The Waggon
can't be recreated anywhere else. Where else but
The Waggon could you get locals and bikers
up dancing and singing together!!!!!
Lastly, I know that the Waggon has always
had a reputation for being a rough pub, but
we are very nice really. Why not give us a try you might even find you like us!! Looking forward to welcoming you into our home.
